Dr. Ade Somide is a political scientist with over 25 years of professional experience in governmental affairs, public policy and academia. In addition to his extensive public sector and academic backgrounds, he is also an international development consultant and has participated in capacity building projects in Nigeria and a number of African countries. In 2012, Dr. Somide successfully orchestrated the first ever partnership between Cornell University and a sub-national entity, Kwara State, Nigeria, to modernize the latter’s agricultural sector. This groundbreaking initiative has been adopted by USAID-Nigeria as part of its Markets II project designed to expand economic opportunities for Nigerian farmers.
Dr. Somide received his B.A. from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky and his M.A. from Eastern Kentucky University, both in Political Science. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, State University of New York at Albany. He has served as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Africana Studies and the Department of Political Science at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany. He has also held a teaching appointment at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York and has published a number of papers on topics such as African development, democratic governance, and conflict management in Africa.
